Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs) to enable fully shielded transactions. These proofs verify the validity of a transaction without revealing the amount, sender, or recipient, ensuring total privacy and network security.
Zcash operates under the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, using the **Equihash** (or Zcashd/Sapling) algorithm. This ensures decentralization by making mining open and the validation process censorship-resistant.
Mining not only adds new blocks to the chain but also fairly distributes the ZEC supply. Zcash has a limited maximum supply and undergoes periodic "halving" to maintain the scarcity of the asset, similar to other PoW cryptocurrencies.
